The story of the ASA

Ron Jones

Founder

The Academy of Scoring Arts was founded in 2009 by legendary composer, orchestrator, and arranger Ron Jones. With over three decades of experience and two Emmy nominations under his belt, Jones has always looked for ways to express himself both musically and creatively. His accomplishments include scoring many of TV’s most popular shows such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Disney’s Duck Tales and two hit animated series for Fox, Family Guy, and American Dad. His theme for Nickelodeon’s Fairly Odd Parents was the most played song on broadcast TV worldwide for three years.

What began in 2009 as an informal study of classic scores among Ron’s friends and peers turned into the Ravel Orchestration Study, and then the non-profit Academy of Scoring Arts. The ASA has since grown to encompass multiple studies, professional studies, and meet-ups to help professionals network with each other.

Ron’s extracurricular activities include being a visiting lecturer at many colleges and universities. He has been invited to be the keynote speaker at The International Conference on Creativity in Malta and in the former USSR as a guest of the Russian Composer’s Union. He composes for symphony orchestras, choirs, jazz bands, marching groups, chamber groups, experimental music ensembles, electronic and all sorts of studio groups. Having conducted and produced hundreds of sessions for most of the Hollywood studios, Jones also guest conducts symphony orchestras in concert. Jones recently conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in a concert of his compositions for Star Trek.

In 2014, Ron relocated Ron Jones Productions, Inc. to the Pacific Northwest to build SkyMuse Studios, a scoring stage and recording studio in rural Washington.  There, he continues his work of collaboration, creativity, and education in music and the scoring arts.
