As featured in the Disney film Fantasia, what better way to welcome the Halloween season than to go deep with Mussorgsky’s frantic, demonic tone poem Night on Bald Mountain? It is said that Mussorgsky wrote this piece in a twelve-day burst of feverish creativity. Our own David Das is joined by Russell Steinberg as they lead us in dissecting Mussorgsky’s music and we learned about the devices that create the bold, compelling sound. We look at and compare the popular Rimsky-Korsakov version with the original Mussorgsky version.
